Thai Airways International is the flag carrier airline of Thailand with corporate headquarters in Chatuchak District, Bangkok. It was formed in 1988 and become public since 1991 with the Ministry of Finance as a dominance shareholder with more than 50%.

From its centre at Suvarnabhumi Airport, THAI flies to 80 destinations in 37 countries, using a fleet of more than 90 aircraft. From 2013 until 2017 purchased 35 new aircrafts including next-generation wide-bodied aircraft and 20 Airbus A320s. In 2018 – 2022 airline will make an acquisition of 15 the Boing 777 next-generation wide-bodied aircraft.  THAI was the first company that initiated a program named "The Most Hygienic In-Cabin Environment Program" focusing on air quality, surface cleanliness and food safety, applying it to the entire fleet. The World Health Organization awarded the airline for cabin environment improve in 2004. It was the first award of its kind ever.

The Thai Airways is the biggest shareholder of the low-cost carrier Nok Air with a 39% stake and it launched a regional carrier under the name Thai Smile in the middle of 2012 using new Airbus A320 aircraft. Also airline is a founding member of the Star Alliance.
